Objective

Pilot your starfighter at the bottom of the screen, dodge enemy fire, and wipe out the entire fleet. After every wave you clear, faster and more dangerous enemies arrive.

Attack from Space

Galaxian's alien fleet doesn't sit still. Enemy ships peel off from formation one by one, dive at the player in bold attack runs, and then return to their ranks. This was an entirely new experience compared to the static shooters that came before it.

Fun Facts

  • Galaxian was one of the first arcade games to feature true RGB color graphics.
  • Enemy movement was significantly more advanced than in Space Invaders.
  • The game's massive success directly led to the creation of the legendary Galaga.
  • It helped establish Namco as one of the leading developers in the arcade industry.

The Evolution of Arcade Games

Galaxian showed that space shooters could be faster, more spectacular, and far more exciting. Countless later classics drew inspiration from it, which is why it's rightly regarded as one of the most important milestones in arcade history.
